Mira M. White Exhibit: "Material Matters"

Presented by Mendocino Art Center at Mendocino Art Center

I am a mixed media artist who believes that visual art has a transformative purpose. I try to synthesize different influences in my life into a rich and complex imagery that tells of the connection between the outer experience of daily life and the inner world of a developing spiritual heart. I work with multiple media and include in my arsenal oils, acrylics, watercolor, soft pastels, all drawing processes and encaustic. My images usually inhabit ambiguous spaces, watery and atmospheric. Pieces are layered and developed over an extended period. Sequence, chronology and time play a significant role in these works, regardless of the medium. There is often an intentional blurring of boundaries between the physical and the psychical – this is what sustains my interest and what, for me, continuously opens up future possibilities. Painting is my Prayer!

— Mira M. White

Colorist and visionary, American artist Mira M. White is an award winning painter with an exhibition record both domestic and international. When viewing her multi-media artworks one bears witness to a personal mythology of deeply felt images that stem from a lifelong preoccupation with and devotion to life as an ongoing journey of change and transformation. She has a consistent group of collectors who have responded to her subtle, transformative pieces.

Her professional responsibilities include a full teaching schedule of classes and workshops in multiple media. Widely respected in the Northern California Bay Area art communities, she has in recent years broadened her teaching venues to include workshops across the country.

Mira’s work frequently appears in both online and hard copy art books and magazines. Art Journey: Abstract Painting as well as another anthology Journeys into Abstraction, include her work. The Pastel Journal will be doing a second article on her work this fall. BFA with High Distinction, MFA with Distinction CCAC, a member of CWA, NWA, IEA, Berkeley Art Center, Arts Benicia and OPUS.
