Lecture: Planting Wholesome Roots

Lecture: Planting Wholesome Roots

Presented by Dharma Realm Buddhist University at City of 10,000 Buddhas

The Buddha emphasized not only the practice of intensive meditation but also the cultivation of wholesome qualities in all their rich variety. Just as a tree is held in the ground by its roots and grows toward the sky, so these wholesome qualities firmly ground the mind and allow it to grow toward the sky of liberation. In this talk Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi will explain the “ten ways of planting wholesome roots” based on the Pali Buddhist tradition.

Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi is an American Buddhist monk who has devoted a lifetime to study, practice, and service. After completing his PhD in philosophy, he traveled to Sri Lanka, where he received novice ordination in 1972 and bhikkhu ordination in 1973, both under the eminent scholar-monk Ven. Balangoda Ananda Maitreya. Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi has many important publications to his credit, either as author, translator, or editor.
