Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Short- Term, Non-Continuing Gallery Technician.

This is a temporary, non-continuing position.

Under general direction of the Gallery Director the Gallery Technician provides clerical support in the day-to- day operations for the College Art Gallery.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a Short-Term Non-Continuing (STNC), temporary, hourly position, 9 hours per week, $19.50 per hour. Ed Code 88003 authorizes a governing board to hire STNC employees for less than 75% of a school year, up to 180 days.

Benefits: The College offers a Bronze level benefit plan at the cost of the employee. Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn three (3) days of sick leave per year.

Retirement: This position may be eligible for CalPERS Retirement (contingent upon number of hours worked within the fiscal year)

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

The successful candidate will support student and institutional success by executing the following duties:

Assists in the planning and execution of gallery shows. Contacts artists for pertinent information
Creates signage, keeps gallery clean and organized
Hangs artwork and arranges displays

Distributes promotional materials on campus, and in the greater college area
Arranges set-up of opening reception and refreshments, and for orderly closing of gallery exhibits and shows. Staffs the gallery during college hours, and for evening performances in the Center Theater
Provides a variety of clerical duties that may include typing; copying; opening and distributing mail; updating documents, and working with social media.
May perform data entry and/or compile information for statistical and other purposes Performs a variety of reception duties including answering and routing phone calls; taking and forwarding messages; receiving and screening visitors; scheduling appointments, and answering questions relevant to the gallery, its shows and the artists currently showing in the gallery.

May support virtual exhibits.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Gallery environment; subject to working flexible hours; working with the public. Workplace is subject to interruptions and distractions.
Physical demands including sitting, standing, reaching, bending, walking, and occasional climbing, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.

Must have experience or classes in Art & Design.

High School Diploma / GED Equivalent, AA Preferred

KNOWLEDGE OF:
A basic understanding about Art, Design and event planning;
Office practices, procedures, and equipment including a computer; word processing, spreadsheet, and database software; recordkeeping techniques;
Correct language usages, including vocabulary and grammar;
Basic arithmetic;
Telephone and email etiquette;
Advanced understanding of communicating through social media

ABILITY TO:
Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of stakeholders;
Assist with setting up and breaking down gallery exhibit;
Assist with publicity and event planning; (Receptions, shows, and media events.) Understand and follow oral and written directions;
Work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays;
Communicate effectively;
Follow and give oral and written communications;
Maintain cooperative working relationships

SELECTION PROCEDURE

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT(Prior to beginning employment)
