Looking for an experienced muralist for a downtown Ukiah mural. Within our firm budget constraints of $3500 we are hoping to see proposals for a scene that will cover the surface with broad strokes and large planes of color.

More specifically, a trompe l’oeil format might be just what we are looking for, with a painted frame  of some kind around a scene. For the subject matter, we are wanting to celebrate both our downtown community and the beauty of our natural surroundings. Zach Schat is the owner of the building where the mural will be, and his bakery is an iconic downtown treasure which should be included in some way. We like the idea of a scene that references the view that a person would see when walking down Perkins Street towards these surrounding hills.

Style can be bold, somewhat abstracted and/or a simplified illustration. We are looking for loose strokes…or a spray can.

The wall was primed and painted in 2018, so it does not need any preparatory treatment. The surface is a very rough and high-relief beige stucco, which will make application of paint with a brush a challenge. Please take this into consideration in your proposal. Photos of the wall’s texture available upon request.

The last important thing that needs to be planned and painted into the mural is the Josiah Royce quote that was part of the original mural. Quote will be made available to the artist.

The artist will be responsible for scaffold rental. We will try to get paint donated, and will also manage the city permit process. The timeline for job completion is by the end of the summer of 2020.
