jjn1I was always encouraged by my parents and grandparents to pursue my creativity and for that I am grateful. I recognized my need to create and express from a young age and it was always the thing I enjoyed most.

I feel like I have lived an unusual existence of constantly being in motion and riding the waves of change. This ebb and flow has contributed to the bouncing around of art forms, mediums, and my overall time frame of producing art.

jjn2I have gone through long periods without creating and then alternately had days and sometimes weeks of producing art with minimal sleep or contact with the outside world.

It’s challenging for me to stick to one project or task and I think I am most comfortable when working on multiple projects and mediums.

Pen and ink, a silver, wire wrapped necklace, a cubistic style graphite drawing, a representational linoleum cut, an abstract monotype, a repurposed piece of rusty metal with paper and text.

Some might think that I’m still trying to find my style, but I feel like I am constantly evolving as an artist and trying new things. That’s what makes it fun!

The idea of doing the same thing over and over is dull. I don’t want to be put in a box and freedom of expression is important, even if it’s experimental. This is much more interesting to me, along with producing original art and the idea of an artist’s hand being on each piece, unique onto itself.

I hope to continuously reinvent myself each day, in all that I do, and within that idea know that I am truly free.

I love art in all forms and the appreciation and understanding of how it all fits, works, and displays together could very well be my greatest joy as a curator.

Please come see my work at my new gallery, The Gallery Mendocino in the Flockworks building, 10460 Kasten St. in Mendocino Village.
