The Mendocino Theatre Company is thrilled to announce its highly anticipated 2024 season,  featuring a captivating selection of plays that promises to entertain, inspire, and provoke thought. From contemporary dramas to heartwarming comedies, the season offers a range of productions that will engage and delight audiences of all ages.

The 2024 season kicks off with the innovative, witty, sexy, and humorous play Born With Teeth by Liz Duffy-Adams, directed by  Elizabeth Craven. Widely recognized as one of the hottest new scripts of the year, “Born With Teeth” is a ninety-minute 16th-century balestra between two of the most famous writers of their time, Will Shakespeare and Kit Marlowe. “Born With Teeth” opened to rave reviews in 2023 and is featured on the rosters of some of America’s most prestigious stages in 2024.

Following “Born With Teeth,” Mendocino Theatre Company proudly presents The Children, a spellbinding drama by Lucy Kirkwood,  directed by Ann Woodhead. This critically acclaimed play delves into the aftermath of a nuclear disaster and examines the impact it has on three retired scientists. Blending humor and profound insight, Kirkwood’s extraordinary script explores themes of responsibility, redemption, and legacy.

In a change of pace, the season continues with the timeless comedy A Thousand Clowns by Herb Gardner, directed by MTC favorite Bob Cohen. This heartwarming and thought-provoking play follows the eccentric Murray Burns as he confronts societal norms and finds meaning in unconventional ways. With its delightful blend of wit, charm, and poignant storytelling, “A  Thousand Clowns” is guaranteed to leave audiences with a renewed appreciation for life’s quirky beauty.

Next on the roster is the witty and unconventional comedy  Hurricane Diane by Madeleine George, directed by Willo  Hausman. In this uproarious production, audiences will meet  Diane, a charismatic and eccentric character who visits suburban communities disguised as a gardener and incites a rejuvenating chaos. Mixing environmental themes with Greek mythology. “Hurricane Diane” offers a clever and hilarious take on modern humanity’s connection to nature.

Closing the season is the uproariously funny and thought-provoking The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa FastHorse, directed by Betty Abramson. This satire skewers political correctness and explores the challenges of representing history accurately through a humorous lens. Audiences will be treated to a smart and entertaining examination of cultural stereotypes and the complexities of well-intentioned activism.

“We are thrilled to present such a dynamic and diverse lineup for our 2024 season,” said Producing Director Beth Craven of  Mendocino Theatre Company. “These shows not only entertain but also tackle important social, environmental, and human issues.  We aim to engage our audiences in meaningful conversations and  create unforgettable theatrical experiences.”
