WCA presents Laura Fargey and Lynn Thompson

Lynn Thompson’s work takes color and makes exciting abstract and impressionistic images on canvas.  Lynn tells us, “For over 50 years I have had the privilege to communicate my need to connect with the world in dark times and rejoice in the good times through my art. I find that I best express myself using abstracts to address the inconsistency of life.”  Whether it be acrylics or oil paints it allows her to present a glimpse of nature in an ever-changing world. When she is creating a painting she chooses the colors and lines, then lets the piece determine its outcome. It allows the viewer to interpret the meaning of the piece for themselves.

Laura Fargey has been making art since 1967 she paints and draws from her own photographs.  She adapts photos as vehicles for a personal statement, which she calls “Stylized Realism”.  The working technique is deliberate, slow, and methodical, resulting in a tapestry of detail. Laura tells us, “I don’t expect certain rendered areas in my paintings or drawings to be literal or recognizable.  There is always a combination of realism and abstraction going on simultaneously in every piece.  Some works have more abstract areas than others; some are predominately realistic.  The newest series, The Eel River, is a departure from the earlier work as it focuses on the beauty of a natural setting with no figurative influences.”

This show opens Friday, February 5 through the 28th.  Gallery hours are 11 am – 5 pm. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  The Gallery is located next to the Noyo Theater, 71 East Commercial St.
