East Coast artist Valerie Rose, who traveled the country seeking a home that would inspire her creative spirit, landed among the redwoods on the Mendocino Coast. She joined Fort Bragg’s Edgewater Gallery, where she is featured artist for September with her works in acrylic, oil, water media, mixed media, charcoal and pencil. Her month-long show will open on First Friday, September 2, from 5-8 p.m., at the gallery, 356 N. Main St. near the Laurel Street intersection. Light refreshments will be served.

The artist will present an interactive art talk at 6:00 p.m. The creative essence of her work centers on the beauty, power and connectedness of women and trees.

Rose, who received the Best in Show honor at the Mendocino Art Center’s Garden show in 2015, concluded her country-wide travels 2013 when she settled in her “creative nirvana.” She joined Edgewater, and recently was elected president of the artist-owned gallery.

Edgewater will celebrate its 13th anniversary this October and currently has more than 15 full-time and guest artists offering a variety of artistic mediums from jewelry, watercolor/oil paintings, ceramics, sculpture, burl wood bowls/tables, photography on metal, and greeting cards to decorative kites and mirrors.

Currently, Edgewater is seeking new artists to fill spots of artists who have moved from the area.
