At the Corner Gallery this November, sisters, Nan Bearden Frenkel and Susan Bearden Gates, will mount a display of watercolors and oil pastels to uplift everyone’s spirits. Their colorful recent works aim for visual beauty and stimulation.
Raised in Mendocino County, Nan went on to get a BA in Art Practice at UC Berkeley, while Susan graduated from the College of Natural resources at Cal. Nan has been playing quietly in her studio, she thinks it is time to share.
Compositions range from abstract to animal portrait, from graphic to painterly. A love of textiles and design is woven through some of her work. Susan is known for local land and ocean scapes that are rich in color and detail.
