Celebrating its 25th anniversary, “The Big Lebowski” follows ultimate L.A. slacker Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, who is mistaken for a millionaire of the same name. Seeking restitution for a rug ruined by debt collectors, he enlists his bowling buddies for help while trying to find the millionaire’s missing wife.
“A cult classic so culty that it even inspired a religious cult, Dudeism,” wrote cultmoviecult.com. “The Coen’s shambling stoner odyssey is a deadbeat homage to Raymond Chandler. Line for line, it is one of the most quotable films in movie history.” The movie inspired millions to order a White Russian as their cocktail of choice, and the Arena Theater bar will be open, serving White Russians to the audience.
“The Big Lebowski” is rated R at a runtime of 117 minutes.
The Cult Classics screenings will continue on July 15 with the 1980 spoof comedy, “Airplane!” taking shots at the slew of disaster movies that were released in the 70s, followed on August 17by the 1975 “Monty Python and The Holy Grail,” a comedic send-up of the King Arthur legend.
