Yelland graduated from California College of Arts and Crafts, now CCA, in 1968, and cites well known painter Richard Diebenkorn as a major influence. He then moved to Branscomb, Mendocino County, where he originated an art and environmental based urban outreach camp sponsored by the Nature Conservancy. He then moved to Branscomb, Mendocino County, where he originated an art and environmental based urban outreach camp sponsored by the Nature Conservancy. He remained there and became known for his woven tapestries and shawls. At the dawn of the 21st century, he shifted to the art of hand forged jewelry and continues to manufacture distinctive pieces. Although an oil painter for decades, he has focused on painting en plein air (outdoors on site) for the last ten years. His passion for art and the environment continue to be expressed in his imagery and forged silver and copper jewelry. You will enjoy his current work on display this month.
The Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino, a destination for traditional and contemporary fine arts since 1988, exhibits art in a broad spectrum of media and content by more than 16 local member and guest artists.
