Northcoast Artists Gallery presents "Oil and Wax" by member artist Lisa Orselli and Caroline Hambright.

When Lisa was studying printmaking at CCA she was drawn to the element of surprise that sometimes occurred: Those “happy accidents” of small marks on the plate that added a richer quality to the drawing. Working in wax affords some of the same opportunities. Being able to layer color after color, and then scraping back, exposes the original colors in a new relationship. Then there’s the diversity it affords: There are so many ways to approach encaustic, as well as the various collage media that you can add. Lisa loves the exploration of a piece; and the feeling of solving a puzzle.

Caroline has been making art since she could hold a pencil. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Art from San Francisco State and is a credentialed art teacher. (She is currently teaching art at the Willits Charter School.) She has worked in many media over the years including mural painting and parade float building. During the quarantine, she turned her attention to oils. Caroline focuses on finding compositions and color combinations that capture the beauty of nature and inspire internal peace. In a world of chaos, she finds this to be one of the only ways she can feel calm and wants to share it with the world.
