Mariko Irie exhibition at Highlight Gallery September 2019

Mariko Irie, a lifelong painter, was born and educated in Tokyo, and has spent many years painting and studying on the Mendocino Coast. She is fascinated by the wet on wet technique, bringing out watercolor’s uniqueness and charm and adding layers of glazing to create a rich look. Recently Mariko has been using oils as well to add another dimension to her repertoire. Her paintings are distinct in traditional style, yet have a wonderful contemporary feel.  Mariko seeks eternal beauty and peace and hopes that the silence of her paintings gives room for contemplation.
