In Kubrick’s dark satire, set in a dismal dystopian England, classical music-loving proto-punk Alex (Malcolm McDowell) and his “Droogs” (friends) spend their nights embarking on “a little of the old ultraviolence,” assaulting people in the streets and in their homes. Finally captured by the police, Alex undergoes rehabilitation in the form of aversion therapy as brutal and horrifying as any of his offenses. Based on the novel by Anthony Burgess.
