Dancing Dog Loft is pleased to present THOTH, a unique music, language, and movement duo, Sunday, July 1st, at 7pm. Thoth and his partner Lila’Angelique are both classically trained violinists and vocalists, and refer to the their musical genre as “tribal baroque.”
Both Thoth and Lila’Angelique were born into professional musical families and began their violin studies early. Accomplished singers, Thoth is a coutertenor and Lila’Angelique is a coloratura soprano. Thoth was the subject of THOTH, a documentary short film, directed by Sarah Kernochan, which won an Academy Award (the “Oscar”) in 2002. Lila’Angelique has performed leading roles in a number of shows and operas.
They met when Lila’Angelique saw Thoth performing in New York’s Central Park. When they discovered their exceptional ability to sing together, they began performing as a duo just a few months after their meeting. Since then the two have performed in venues, festivals, weddings, and various types of events throughout the world including: “Sounderground” in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Oregon Country Fair in Eugene, Oregon; Burning Man in Black Rock City, Nevada; and numerous other venues large and small. They earned their label when the producer of their show in Madeira announced them as “Tribal Baroque.”
In 2014, they were commissioned to write an opera called “Esh and Ee-ay” which debuted in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, in the summer of 2015. They have recorded 5 CDs, some of which will be available at the Dancing Dog performance.
