Charlotte obtained an art education degree from the University of Denver and went on to do graduate work at San Francisco State University. She has been working in precious metals ever since, exhibiting in California, Oregon and Washington. She moved to the coastal mountain area of Northern California in 1974. Her experience of living close to nature inspires and informs her work. In her contemporary jewelry designs she hopes to show our human connection to all living things.
Lisa came to encaustic via print making when a fellow printer introduced her to the medium. She was immediately taken by the surface, the brilliance of the colors, and the diversity the medium invites. Now, ten years later, it continues to lure her in different directions, exploring the ability to layer, to embed, to excavate, to draw with a pen, and to create textures. Lisa states “My work with encaustic is driven by process. The process resembles a conversation: I apply color, then the wax responds, I add fabric, the wax replies. I scrape wax away and the wax reveals what’s beneath, and the conversation continues until we agree that we can stop: The elements have been resolved. There’s nothing more to say.”
