The exquisite glass work of Viviana Paredes and cyanotypes by Mary T. Faria are on display now & through January 14 at the L.A. Hyder Gallery.  Hyder\’s own work, selected from her 48 years in photography, is also on display.

On Saturday, January 7 at 4pm, all three will be discuss their processes and ideas contributing to their bodies of work. The talk is followed by a reception for the artists.

In the glass work of Viviana Paredes, we observe the delicate interrelationships of our natural world inspired by a deep sense of belonging to something greater than the self, and reflecting initiation by her grandmother Petra into the ancient tradition of medicinal plants and healing arts.

Mary T. Faria says of her work: ‘I make image narratives that portray the tension, longing, beauty, and conflict of belonging to both the physical and spiritual realms. In these stories of human and natural worlds, flux is a constant with conditions, choice, and mystery all shaping the forms we take – and make.’

Happy/L.A. Hyder claims as mentors the Life Magazine pictorial photographers of the 1950s.  Their fascination with and replication of the fall of light and shadow on sharp edges and soft curves serves her to this day. Intricately simple, as she calls them, Hyder’s images (architecture, nature and portraits) bring you into the mundane with a different eye.
