ATTENTION SINGERS, ACTORS, MUSICIANS & DANCERS!!!!

Auditions for Mendocino College’s spring 2023 production of the award winning musicalOnce are just a week away.  Open auditions will be held Saturday December 10 at 10 AM at Mendocino College and we hope to see YOU there!

We will be auditioning actors for both the college production of Once and the Ukiah Players production of Alice in Wonderland, so come on Saturday December 10 at 10 AM and audition for both shows at once!

Once is a truly beautiful show, based on the movie of the same title. It is the story of a guy who gives up on love and music, and the girl who inspires him to dream again. It is a love story, but not a fairy-tale. Set in Dublin, the musical is about the relationship of an Irish street musician/Hoover vacuum repairman whose heart is stopped in its tracks when he meets a Czech pianist with a vacuum needing repair.  It is a story of two people who are changed forever by a moment in time that happened “once.”  It is a powerful and moving celebration of humanity and music. It will run March 23-April 2 in the college Center Theatre.

Note, for Once, we will be casting an ensemble of actors-singers-dancers-instrumentalists.  We are looking for a variety of instruments, including but not limited to, guitar, piano, fiddle, bass guitar, drum set, accordion, and cello.  Ideally, we are looking for multi-talented performers who can play an instrument, sing, dance and act, but please come even if you can’t do all these things.  There is considerable flexibility in the casting. There are 12 principal roles plus an ensemble of 8-10 additional performers.

For more detailed information, including character break-down,  about auditions, please see the press release at: https://www.mendocino.edu/event/auditions-musical-once

Leave (guys)

If You Want Me (ladies)

If possible, please learn one or more of these songs in advance of the auditions.  If you can accompany yourself on an instrument of your choice, that would be great.  If not, our music director, Phillip Lenberg, will accompany you.  If you prefer to sing a different song, you may do that, though performing one of these three songs is preferred.  Your initial audition on Saturday December 10 will involve singing song and learning a dance routine with our choreographer Eryn Schon-Brunner.  Call-backs, as scheduled will be on Sunday December 11 and will include reading scenes from the play.

We will meet in the college CVPA Building / Center Theatre on the Mendocino College Ukiah campus.  For  more information e-mail redelman@mendocino.edu or call  707-468-3172.

Yours,

Reid Edelman
