The population of our Ukiah Valley consists of thousands of people who have immigrated here from the land of their birth, across borders and oceans. Some came as children with their parents, some made the journey on their own as adults and some are descended from earlier generations who made the journey. These immigrants also brought plants, bugs and animals with them, which have all become part of our present landscape.

We are looking for art that tells all sides of the story. What is life like for you in a new land… what have you lost and what have you gained by coming here? Was it worth it to leave your homeland? What was your journey like and is it over? Where do you belong now… are you from here or there? And how about the plants and animals… how do they fit in? You are encouraged to submit art in all media, both two- and three-dimensional. Please include a short  statement with each entry about how your art relates to the theme.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday October 4 between 11 and 2 or Wednesday October 5th from 11- noon.

Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the middle of September for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Saturday October 29 or Tuesday November 1, 11-5.

The First Friday opening of this show is October 7 from 5-8pm.
