    California Poets in the Schools’ Poet-Teacher Independent Contractor Job Summary ~ Mendocino County California Poets in the Schools (CalPoets) seeks independent contractors to work on a contract or freelance basis as Poet-Teachers in Mendocino County, specifically to work at high schools.  CalPoets’ Poet-Teachers are professional writers who choose to give back to their communities as Poet-Teachers. They should have demonstrated experience in the literary arts and be passionate about teaching school-aged youth in public school settings.  New CalPoets’ Poet-Teachers are paired with experienced mentors to prepare for classroom placement.  This is a great opportunity for poets at all stages of their careers. Poet-Teachers achieve 1-5 teaching contracts per school year. Poet-Teacher Independent Contractor Duties and Responsibilities • Work with a Poet-Teacher mentor in preparation for classroom placement • Teach poetry creation in various K-12 classrooms throughout Mendocino County Poet-Teacher Independent Contractor Requirements and Qualifications • Demonstrated experience in the literary arts with a clear focus on poetry • Passionate about teaching school-aged youth in public school settings • Able to prioritize and manage your own schedule • Bi-lingual English/Spanish highly recommended • Significant cross-cultural experience and understanding • Able to do great work with minimal supervision • Strong time-management, communication, and organizational skills Perks/Compensation • Receive $250 stipend upon completion of mentorship • Earn at least $70 (all inclusive) per teaching hour, once placed in a classroom, or negotiate your own rates with schools • Gain access to some local grant funding • Receive assistance to establish contracts with schools and classroom teachers • Join a professional network of California poets from throughout the state • Gain access to CalPoets’ library of lesson plans, monthly meetings, annual conferences and professional development To Apply: Please send a resume, a brief cover letter, and up to five of your own poems (written or performed, links ok) to meg@cpits.org About California Poets in the Schools: VISION California Poets in the Schools’ vision is to enable youth in every California county to discover, cultivate and amplify their own creative voices through reading, analyzing, writing, performing and publishing poetry.     Deep Valley Arts Collective and MEDIUM Art Gallery present A Juried Photography Exhibition. This is a juried group exhibition showcasing visually compelling images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, etc.). Applications will be assessed on three criteria: creativity, originality, and the visual/emotional impact of the image. Artist submissions have begun for our August/September exhibition to be held at MEDIUM Art Gallery in Ukiah.    The exhibition is open to all artists!     The application window for the California Nonprofit Performing Arts Grant Program is opening soon, the preliminary website is up at www.CANonprofitPerformingArts.com. The website is still being completed, and does not yet include the program guidelines. The rest of the details are coming soon. The California Nonprofit Performing Arts Grant Program was created to provide grants to eligible nonprofit performing arts organizations, including qualifying fiscally sponsored organizations, to encourage workforce development. This grant will help with payroll, benefits, recruitment, training, and other expenses that support your team. The Program includes $49,500,000.00 to be allocated to eligible nonprofit performing arts organizations that meet certain criteria. These grants will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis in specified amounts depending on the applicant’s annual gross revenue in the 2019 taxable year. The California Nonprofit Performing Arts Grant Program is funded by the State of California and administered by the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA).     Registration is now open for the Mendocino Art Center’s plein air festival, the Mendocino Open Paint Out, September 19-25. The Mendocino Art Center hosts the Mendocino Open Paint Out, a plein air festival established in 2013. The Mendocino Coast, located along a beautiful expanse of the Pacific Ocean in northern California, is a spectacular setting to paint en plein air. Artists claim that the quality of light is unlike anywhere else in the world. From the rugged surrounding landscape, to the bay and beaches, to the quaint Victorian architecture and water towers in the town of Mendocino, to the nearby vineyards and wineries, artists are sure to find abundant creative inspiration, and will remember the beauty and tranquility of the Mendocino Coast long after visiting. Enjoy daily plein air painting, wet paint sales in a professional gallery, demonstrations by featured plein air artists, a Quick Draw Competition and Sale, and a celebratory awards presentation, among other activities.     We are looking for extraordinary creations in a wide array of mediums – ceramic, glass, paintings, sculpture, textiles, woodworking and more. APPLY NOW The two-day event will take place on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7 from 11:00am to 5:00pm. MENDOCINO COAST BOTANICAL GARDENS 707-964-4352 18220 North Highway 1 Fort Bragg, CA 95437 All artists must commit to setting up and participating in both days of the event. This event is a major fundraiser for the Gardens and attracts as many as 1,500 guests each year. Artist booths will be located on our Event Lawn just a short walk from the Ocean Bluffs. We are already looking forward to the 28th annual Art in the Gardens (AIG) at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens! The two-day event will take place on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7 from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
