Juried Art Competition Submit to ART CENTER UKIAH Exhibit in Three Galleries Cannabis has a long and colorful history in Mendocino County, and it affects both residents and visitors in diverse ways. It has fueled our economy for years, and has recently become legal. With 20/20 hindsight on half a century of local cannabis cultivation and use, it’s time to discuss the different aspects of how it speaks to all of us. We are asking artists to visually interpret their own experiences with cannabis. How has it affected you or your environment? We are looking for work in any visual medium, both two and three-dimensional. We welcome and encourage both positive and negative responses. This will be a juried show, opening at Willits Center for the Arts on May 1st, Art Center Ukiah, June 2nd to July 1st and Gualala Arts on July 14th, 2023. Next exhibits at Art Center Ukiah, a community gallery 201 South State Street, Ukiah http://www.cornergalleryukiah.com email: cornergalleryukiah201@gmail.com “Vessels”- January 4th-28th, 2023 Vessels are containers, physically and metaphorically. Looking at the straightforward definition, a vessel is a hollow container, especially one used to hold liquid, such as a bowl or cask. A human being can also be a vessel. People from the beginning of civilization have used vessels as surfaces for lavish and fanciful embellishment. If you are a potter, a woodworker, a basket weaver or textile artist, please show us what you can create. If you are a painter, a collage artist or other two-dimensional artist, this show is for you too… we will need wall art as well as three-dimensional vessels. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the middle of December for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. “Shelter”- February 1st- 25th, 2023 Shelter is one of our most basic human needs. Shelter can range from basic to fanciful, from tiny to grandiose or from movable to permanent. Shelter can be a medium for people to express their rich artistic and cultural heritage. It can be a place or a home. It can be a statement or a refuge. What shelters you or people you care about, on the emotional or physical level, in reality or in your imagination? Show us where you go for shelter, what it looks like, and how it feels to you. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the middle of December for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show.
