My Art is a parallel life, revealing my thoughts and feelings. I create what I want to see at a resonant moment in time, that I imagine or see in the world. I love them as testaments to what has touched me. My friend Orena says I love my own work more then anyone else she knows!
True for me as they put me in touch with people, moments, treasures I value. I’ve drawn since I could hold a pencil and with Mom supplied Art materials, as she valued creativity herself.
School and especially College Art classes were such fun discoveries. I loved school and just kept going! I have two Master’s degrees, in Painting and Art Education from UC Berkeley and UW Madison respectively. For 34 years, I taught Secondary Art in Vallejo and at Chabot College in Hayward. Many former students have become artists, architects and creators in related fields. Retiring to paint, I showed in Bay Area galleries and studied at the University of Creation/Spirituality for a DMin. degree, offering me humane life perspectives. I joined the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino in 2010.
After visiting our land for two months a year since ’78, my late artist husband Dan Olson and I moved here permanently in ’16. Living in the Redwoods during the Pandemic has moved me to focus on my surroundings which my current work reflects. I’ve returned to huge Natural elements as inspiration. The Redwoods’ scale holds intimate details as I pursue their nurturing qualities as an invitation to join me, in my parallel Universe.
I was invited to join the Artists’ Co-op in 2010 and display on my wall with a One person Featured Artist Show every 2 years. I can change my space at any time, follow my creative intuition and create themes and use diverse media for my wall and Featured Artist Shows. We are a group of 18 producing and lively members currently, In a beautiful space. I truly value this experience as an Artist and a creative person.
My late husband Dan Olson and I sponsored Comptche’s Art and Wine Day every fourth Saturday of September from 2014-19; stopping for the Pandemic. Happy to say, we’ll have an Art Day once again, on September 23, bringing many creative people together. Over 40 artists show their work from 2-6 in the Comptche Community Hall, 1/4 mile East of the town center. I will send out applications to residents in August and invite everyone to see their excellent and varied work. Our break has been too long!
I was invited to be the Summer Featured Artist for the Arts Council of Mendocino. It’s an opportunity to express my self beyond my visual statements in paint. And to share past styles and interests. I’m honored to join this tradition in beautiful Mendocino County.
