For the past 17 years, the Mendocino County branch of California Poets In the Schools (with the generous support of MCOE, participating teachers, students, the Arena Theater and Matheson Performing Arts Center) has hosted two high school poetry slams a year.

POETRY OUT LOUD/ HIGH SCHOOL POETRY SLAM

After the finals, on Friday, Feb 16, 9:30am at the conference room at the Developing Virtue School in Ukiah, high school poets from Ukiah, Point Arena, and Mendocino will compete to become the Mendocino Poetry Out Loud champion. And immediately following, teams from Point Arena, Fort Bragg, Ukiah, and Mendocino and Anderson Valley will slam their original poetry at the 17th annual MCOE/CPITS Coast High School Poetry Slam. The event will be judged by four Mendocino County poets, with audience response influencing their decision. Join us at the Arena Theater in Point Arena in support of youth expression. These events are sponsored by the Mendocino County Office of Education, California Poets in the Schools, the California Arts Council and the National Endowment of the Arts with the generous support of the Arena Theater, Surf Supermarket and Arena Market.
