Northcoast Artists Gallery is pleased to present their March show, “Faculty of The Krenov school: Works by Past and Present Instructors.” It is an opportunity to see an exceptional show of creative woodworking.
The Krenov School was founded in 1981 by a group of Mendocino woodworkers, and woodworker and author, James Krenov. It was under the auspices of the College of the Redwoods until 2017, when it was transferred to Mendocino College.
The following information is from Laura Mays, Lead Instructor of the program since 2011: “The Woodworking Program is intensive, focusing on craftsmanship, which we interpret as attentiveness and respect for our material, and using techniques to build pieces that will last lifetimes. We try to respect Krenov’s philosophy and methodology, and also to apply and adapt those ideas to a personal approach of working. The exhibitors: Crispin Hollinshead, Instructor in the first year of the Program in 1981. Michael Burns joined very shortly afterwards. Jim Budlong started teaching in 1985, and continues to the present. Greg Smith and Ejler Hjorth-Westh began following the retirement of James Krenov in 2002. David Welter was the Shop Manager for thirty years until 2016, and was followed in that role by Todd Sorenson. Michael Burns retired in 2011. Mollie Ferguson came on board for several months in 2017.”
Please join the artists for a First Friday Opening Reception on March 2 from 5 to 8 pm. Refreshments will be served. Northcoast Artists Gallery is open daily from 11am – 5pm.
