"It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing"

Presented by Caspar Curiosities at Unknown

Mendocino Coast artist Robert Ross and his cousin Joseph Feldman will present their work in a joint exhibit at Caspar Curiosities, Rachael Victoria Adams’ vibrant gallery in Caspar, California.  The title of the show, taken from the Duke Ellington classic “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing,” highlights the rhythm, movement, and charged energy of these artworks.

The public is cordially invited to a Gala Opening Reception for the artists, which will take place on Friday, February 9th, from 5 to 9 PM. The exhibit will continue through April 1st.

Robert Ross has lived on the north coast since 1965, working at painting, drawing, collage, graphics, lettering and freehand papercutting.  He’s taught at College of the Redwoods, the Mendocino Art Center, Oregon School of Arts and Crafts, and California State Summer School for the Arts, and has had scores of exhibits. For years he has been a coordinator of the Mendocino Figure Drawing Collective, a traditional arts workshop of the Mendocino Art Center. At the Caspar exhibit he’ll be showing a series of dynamic still life collages and the previously unexhibited blockbuster collage GIANT ORANGE. He’s currently also exhibiting paintings and drawings at The Bookstore and Vinyl Cafe in Fort Bragg. More of his work can be seen at RobertRossStudio.com

Joseph Feldman is a Los Angeles based sculptor who constructs abstract kinetic assemblages using wood, motors, hardware, wire, rope and other industrial materials that move and make sound.  Though mechanical, his kinetic sculptures have the quality of organic choreography.  He has a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley, where in addition to architecture he studied sculpture. He also works as a freelance toy designer, specializing in the design and development of mechanical toys. He has participated in a variety of group shows in California, New York, Florida and Rhode Island. Among his works on display will be several new sculptures created especially for this show.
