Cultural
Plan Update October 2004
During
September and October, "Bridges to the Future"
the new cultural plan for Mendocino County
was unveiled at a series of six regional receptions. Receptions
were held in Ukiah, Mendocino, Willits, Gualala, Covelo,
and Boonville. At each reception, an Arts Council board
member welcomed the community and introduced the plan, a
series of community supporters spoke about the importance
of this initiative to the county and to their communities,
Arts Council executive director Anna Kvinsland gave a brief
history of the project and talked about the plan for implementation,
an example of a digital story was previewed, and finally
there was a question and comment period. Copies of the plan
were available and volunteer surveys were distributed and
collected.

This
cultural plan, created by over 100 dedicated business, government,
artistic and community leaders, points the way to creating
a greater understanding of the role of the arts in Mendocino
Countys social and economic future. An important goal
of this plan was to identify and move forward the role of
local artists and arts organizations of all cultures. The
plan addresses a variety of civic concerns and suggests
new collaborations, leadership, and financing to advance
the county and its cultural assets.
"Bridges
to the Future" was endorsed by the County Board of
Supervisors, the City of Willits, the City of Ukiah, the
City of Point Arena, and the City of Fort Bragg.
The
following is a list of ways in which YOU CAN GET
INVOLVED.
Fund!
Funding
is needed to implement specific recommendations of the
plan, as well as general support to the Arts Council
as they coordinate the volunteer efforts countywide.
Many funding opportunities, at many levels, exist. If
you wish to contribute to the effort, please contact
the Arts Council office at (707) 961-5449, acmc@artsmendocino.org,
or by mail at P.O. Box 1393, Fort Bragg, CA 95437.
The
Arts Council is a private non-profit organization, supported
by memberships and donations. Contributors to the Arts
Council of Mendocino County are eligible for tax deductions
under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) for contributions
made to qualified non-profit organizations.
Volunteer!
Community
members are encouraged to get involved in implementation
of this plan.
Since
implementation will happen on the local level through
the efforts of regional work groups, volunteers can
work on issues in their own communities.
The
Arts Council will serve as the connector to join the
efforts of the regional work groups. Because of this
arrangement, there will be a direct flow of information
between the local level and the countywide level. Each
region will have a direct ongoing interface with the
Arts Council.
There
are opportunities for volunteers to work on one-time
projects or longer-term projects and/or committee work.
There's something for everyone! If youre interested
in getting involved, please fill out and return the
Volunteer Survey. The Arts Council will connect you
to the ongoing effort in your own community.

the Arts Council to speak about "Bridges to the
Future" at your next meeting, please call Anna
Kvinsland at (707) 961-5449 or email director@artsmendocino.org.
The
Arts Council would especially like to thank, in no particular
