RURALMURALS PROJECT

The murals
are coming! The murals are coming! Six Mendocino County public
spaces will be graced with attractive youth-powered murals
before September 2002. Any community-based organization that
serves youths is welcome to apply for funding. Murals will
reflect positive community values, cultural customs and traditions,
healthy and safe motifs, self-efficacy and positive role models.
Youth serving organizations can apply through a simple Request
for Proposal. Muralists, youth groups, community organizations
and youth workers should get in touch with the RuralMurals©
coordinators Marc Komer at 459-3246 or Alexa Armenta at 463-1426
for more information. Deadline for application is February
15, 2002.
Six groups
of ten youths, ages 14-18 years old, will develop, design
and paint each of these public art murals. The RuralMurals
Project© will provide a professional muralist to work,
train and mentor the youth artists. Incentives, art supplies,
workspace, snacks, team-building activities, installation
and a public dedication will be provided.
Mendocino County has been divided into six regions: Ukiah/Potter
Valley, Willits/Laytonville, North Coast, South Coast, Anderson
Valley and Round Valley. One group from each region will be
selected to design and paint a mural.
The RuralMurals
Project© is a program funded by the Mendocino County
Department of Public Health through a grant from the Office
