learning more about our history and the marine sciences.

Marine Science Docent Training:
Wednesday, January 31, 11am-2pm. Experience the Marine Science exhibit
and learn about the organisms that live in the salt water aquarium.
Meet in the Smithy. Contact: Sarah Grimes (707-813-7925). If you
cannot make this date, contact Sarah for an alternate Wednesday
morning.

this training or call Sarah with your preferred date (707-813-7925),

First Assistant Lightkeeper’s House History:
Saturday, February 3rd, 10am to noon, Explore the history, restoration
and stories of those that lived and worked at Point Cabrillo. Meet
downstairs at The First Assistant Lightkeeper’s House (East House).

Frolic History:
Saturday February 3rd 1pm-3pm. Learn to Tell Engaging Stories That
Highlight Core History & Key Personalities: integrating Gold Rush Era
Turning Points (Birth of SF & CA, Frolic, Jerome Ford, Mendocino
Pioneer Days, statehood) with SF ’06 Earthquake (destruction, CA
rebuilding, birth of PC LH) — plus how Tom Layton’s unexpected 1984
Frolic rediscovery and ’92 book advanced the community efforts. Meet
upstairs at the First Assistant Lightkeeper’s House (East House).

Lens Tour training/refresher:
Saturday February 10th 11am. Discover how the 3rd Order Fresnel Lens,
Federal Aid to Navigation functions today and its history. Be a part
of the team that helps with lens tours, a significant source of income
for Point Cabrillo. NEW and EXPERIENCED docents are strongly
encouraged to attend. Contact: Steve Nilson

Restoration History and Lighthouse History:
Saturday February 10th, 1pm-3pm. We will look at Bruce Rogerson’s
excellent slide show and discuss how to interpret the history and
restoration of our working Lighthouse. New and returning docents
encouraged to attend. Meet upstairs at The First Assistant
Lightkeeper’s House (East House). Contact: Tanya Smart

If you want to attend both trainings on February 10th,
you’re welcome to bring a sack lunch for the break.

Whale Docent Training:
Saturday February 17th, 10am to 3pm. This year we are doing something
a bit different. We will focus on interpretation – and how to use the
adaptations and natural history of the California Gray Whale to engage
the public. Docents and naturalists from other groups are welcome to
attend. (Meeting place to be determined) Bring a sack lunch. Contact:
