Karen Lewis grew up in Los Angeles then traveled and lived elsewhere before settling in the forest near Albion with her husband, the sculptor Will Lewis. Their four children are now grown and flown. Karen’s essays, poems, and short fiction have appeared in Drumvoices, Hip Mama, Literary Mama, Iron Horse, Minerva Rising, Instant City, and other journals, including the Cricket Media group of magazines for youth. She’s led workshops with California Poets in the Schools since 1996. She’s also a recipient of multiple California Arts Council “Artists in Schools” grants and Arts Council of Mendocino County “GASP” grants. Her work explores the intersection of geography, spirit, and imagination. She earned an MFA in creative writing from Antioch – Los Angeles and previously studied at Stanford University and Mt. Holyoke College.
